Since opening in May 1990, the Melbourne Convention Centre has hosted thousands of meetings and conventions, including the Rotary Conference for 23,000, the recent International Congress of Genetics - the largest scientific conference held in the world this year and the 6th World Congress of Chemical Engineering which was awarded 'Meeting of the Year - over 500 delegates', by the Meetings Industry Association of Australia.
Featuring two theatres, banquet space for up to 2000 guests, exhibition area and a variety of meeting rooms, the Convention Centre provides unrivalled flexibility for conference organisers.
The Convention Centre has consistently been named 'Australia's Best Convention Centre' by the Meetings Industry Association of Australia and in 2000 the prestigious International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC) named the Centre the first 'World's Best Congress Centre'.
Transportation is easily accessible. Public transport pick up points surround the venue. Trams stop directly outside the main entrance to the Melbourne Convention Centre. One of Melbourne’s largest railway stations, with intrastate and interstate links, is within easy walking distance. Two Taxi ranks are located on site and water taxis operate along the Yarra River.
